Established in 1985 by retired University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Professor Richard Jackson, the Meacham Writers' Workshop fosters an informal space for writers of all levels to exchange ideas and works. Open to students and the public free of charge, it upholds its founder's vision of inclusivity.
With its 40th anniversary approaching in 2025, the workshop aims to expand its scope under the leadership of Professor Sybil Baker, the new director. To achieve this, additional funding is sought to provide stipends, cover travel expenses, particularly airfare, and support public events benefiting the community. Donations to the project will facilitate the recruitment of diverse writers nationwide as Meacham Fellows or workshop participants. Professor Baker envisions the workshop as a valuable campus resource, exposing students to various writing styles and authors while offering opportunities for direct engagement with established writers.
Learn more about upcoming events by visiting the Meacham Writers' Workshop website, and listen to an interview with Sybil Baker on WUTC’s Scenic Roots podcast from March 2024.
